February 21 - No Meeting
February 14 This evening, John Moscinski delved into the 6-CD box set "Jazz: The Smithsonian Anthology"to discuss the contents that represent a virtual history of jazz recordings. We listened to some wonderful jazz, including tracks by the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Duke Ellington and His Orchestra, Benny Moten and His Orchestra, Artie Shaw and His Orchestra, Bud Powell and Machito and His Afro-Cuban Orchestra.
February 7 Tonight the Mudcats came back to the Cottage for their second visit. The band entertained us with some fine New Orleans style jazz to celebrate Mardi Gras. The Mudcats are Jack Rusnak (cornet), Jim Boreczky (reeds), Rich Marcisz (guitar), Kim Mniszewski (trombone), Matt Puralewsk (bass) and Rick Murray (vocals).
January 31 This evening's presentation was "Big Band Bird." Society president, Ian Tiele took a look at some of the great recordings that alto saxophone legend Charlie Parker made with larger ensembles. We listened to Parker playing with Jay McShann, Woody Herman's Herd, Stan Kenton, Jazz at the Philharmonic and others.
January 24 Tonight we featured the second in our series of "A Trio of Jazz Presenters," Where three different presenters discuss 3 unrelated jazz topics. Tonight's presenters were Perry Huntoon (Bing Crosby on Decca 1940-54), Lee Goode (Roots, Jazz, Reggae: The Explorations of Ernest Ranglin) and Ian Tiele (Mambo Madness).
January 17 This evening was a "Free and Easy Night." Members brought along jazz music and video from their own collections to play and discuss.
January 10 This evening, popular vocalist Summer Kwai brought her Brazilian trio to the Cottage for some wintertime "Summer Samba."The trio is made up of Summer Kwai (vocals), Paulinho Garcia (guitar) and Heitor Garcia (percussion). Both Summer and Paulinho sang some very authentic Brazilian jazz in both English and Portuguese. Paulinho's guitar and brother Heitor's pecussion added the perfect musical accompaniment.
January 3 Tonight, Frank Slabinak presented "Marian McPartland: PianoJazz." Frank took a look at the very successful and long running NPR radio series "Piano Jazz" which featured Marian McPartland interviwing and playing piano with guests such as Eubie Blake, Hitomo Uehara, Joanne Brackeen, Diana Krall and Steely Dan.

December 13 This evening we had our Christmas Party with the live jazz being provided by Zvonimir Tot's Organ Combo, who recreated the music of some of the great jazz organ quartets of the fifties and sixties. The band was made up of Zvonimir Tot (guitar), Chris Madsen (tenor sax), Pete Benson (organ) and Ernie Adams (drums).
