March 13  This evening, John Moscinski's presentation was "Louis Armstrong: Controversial Icon." John discussed the life and career of the legendary trumpeter/vocalist who caused controversy several times throughout his lifetime.

March 6  Tonight's live jazz entertainment was provided by the Mark O'Connor Organ Trio. Saxophonist Mark has played for us several times before with his quintet, but this was the playing debut for this trio of Mark O'Connor (tenor saxophone), Karl Montzka (organ) and YL Douglas (drums). The music was top-notch with the group playing a wide variety of material, including several of Mark's own compositions.

February 27  This evening we had one of our popular "A Trio of Jazz Presenters," where 3 different presenters discussed three different jazz topics. The evening's presenters/topics were: Perry Huntoon (The Guitar Artistry of Charlie Byrd), Jim Curto (Thelonious Monk) and Lee Goode (Mongo Santamaria).

February 6 This evening was a "Free and Easy Night." Members brought along jazz music and video from their own collections to play and discuss.

January 30  Tonight was a "Jazz Movie Night" presented by John Moscinski. John's chosen topic was "Piano Magic." The first hour featured No One Can Hear You Read, a documentary about the life and music of Erroll Garner. After the break  John played film clips of Dave Brubeck, Thelonious Monk, George Shearing, Oscar Peterson, Dorothy Donegan, Ramsey Lewis and others.

January 23  This evening, Perry Huntoon's presentation was "Basie's Basement," the third in his series that will cover pianist/bandleader Count Basie's whole career. In this section Perry took take a look at the 1947-51 period of transition for Count Basie and his band focusing on the RCA Victor recordings.

January 16  Tonight was a "Jazz Movie Night." Frank Slabinak showed "The Gene Krupa Story" on the society's big screen. This 1959 film told the story of legendary jazz drummer and showman, Gene Krupa who played with many of the great early "Chicago Jazz" musicians, as well as Benny Goodman before leading his own big band.
