September 2 (Thursday) TRIP TO THE CHICAGO JAZZ FESTIVAL - Tonight, the Society takes to the road again, when we take the meeting on a luxury bus to see Ahmad Jamal perform his 80th birthday concert with the Chicago Jazz Orchestra at the Chicago Jazz Festival in Millennium Park. The Society is subsidizin part of the cost of the bus - the cost for BJS members is only $10 ($15 for non-members). If you went on the Sonny Rollins bus trip two years ago, you'll remember what a fun time was had by all. The bus will leave Irish Times at 5:15 p.m. and we will arrive back around 10:00 p.m. Tickets will sell out quickly for this trip, so please see John Moscinski, Ian Tiele or Marc Kritzer to book your place, as soon as possible. There will be NO meeting held in the Cottage this evening.
September 9 (Thursday) LIVE JAZZ - JULI WOOD QUARTET (The music starts at 7.30 p.m.)
This evening, we welcome the Juli Wood Quartet to the Cottage for their first appearance. Juli plays alto, tenor, and baritone saxes, and she also loves to sing! The quartet play boppish jazz with a real swing to it. For this event, there is a suggested band collection donation of $5 per person for BJS members (with membership card); non-BJS members will be charged a cover charge of $5 at the door.
